Eagle Boys and Girls Broadside Sailors
The McKenzie Boys and Girls Varsity Basketball Teams played host to the Mapleton Sailors last Tuesday, Dec. 11, and each notched a Mt. West League victory to remain at the top of their respective standings.

Sydney King at MapletonThe Eagle girls (2-0 in League) won handily, 39-23, and are tied with perennial rival Triangle Lake. The Hiddleston sisters, Buggy and Makaila paced the home Eagles with 10 points apiece to lead their team. Makaila showed her strength and dominance in the paint as she also hauled down 15 rebounds.

Jon Mahody at MapletonIn the Boys game, senior Eagle Caleb Scrivner notched a double-double as he scored 20 points to go along with 15 rebounds. Teammate Blake Anderson also added a double-double of his own with 14 points and 10 boards. Jon Mahody added 15 points for the Eagles as they improved to 3-0 in Mt. West League play and are knotted at the top with Crow and Triangle Lake (each 2-0).

McKenzie Girls Defeat Oakridge, Boys Upended
The Eagle Girl’s Varsity Basketball Team continued to play strong as they entertained the visiting Oakridge Warriors, Wednesday, Dec. 12 and sent the Upper Willamette Basin folks home with a 53-29 non-league defeat. McKenzie’s Buggy Hiddleston, followed up an outstanding evening on the court the night before versus Mapleton with another fine game as she led her team with 15 points and 8 rebounds. Teammate Shyla Harlan also had a nice game as she contributed 8 points offensively and kept the Warriors off balance with 6 defensive steals. In the Boys game, the Eagles took an 11 pt. lead into the locker-room at the halftime break (36-25), but couldn’t contain Oakridge’s Senior Austin White who shot devastatingly from downtown and drained five 3 point shots, totaled 27 points in the game and led his team with 6 assists. The White led Warrior second half rally ended in a 52-56 non-league defeat for the Eagles. Oakridge represents the 2A Mt. View League. Three Eagles scored in double figures in the game, led by Blake Anderson with 19 points. Bailey Adams added 11 pts. and Victor Vidal scored 10 pts.

Eagle Girls Grab 3rd Place Trophy at Country Christian Tourney
McKenzie traveled North to Mollala, Friday and Saturday, Dec. 14, 15 to compete in the annual Country Christian Basketball Tournament. On Friday evening, the Eagles hooked up with the host Country Christian Cougars and dropped their first game of the early season, losing 37-50. In the consolation game, the Eagles rebounded by defeating Horizon Christian (Tualatin) in a low scoring affair, 24-16. In the first game against the Cougars, Eagle Makaila Hiddleston led all scorers with 14 points while Senior teammate Sydney King chipped in an additional 10 pts. Against Horizon Christian, Shyla Harlan scored a third of her teams points as she tallied 8 points. With the win the Eagles captured third place in the Tournament and improved to 4-1 overall in the early 2012-13 season. The Eagle Girls continue Mt. West League play this Monday, Dec. 17 as they host the Eddyville Charter Eagles. On Wednesday, Dec. 19, the Crow Cougars visit and on Friday, Dec. 21, the Lowell Red Devils are in Finn Rock. All games tip off at 5:30 pm.

McKenzie Boys Drop Two in Mollala, Gain Experience
The Eagle Boys Basketball Team participated in and brought home valuable experience in the Annual Country Christian Basketball Tournament in Mollala on Friday, Dec. 14 and Sat., Dec. 15. In the first game of the event, the Eagle tipped off against #14 ranked Country Christian and succumbed to the host Cougars 39-49. In the consolation game, McKenzie faced an old rival from the 2A Tri-River Conference, the #5 ranked Regis Rams. Regis easily defeated the Eagles 31-55 to claim 3rd place in the tournament. McKenzie’s Blake Anderson led his team with 7 points against Regis. McKenzie is now 3-4 overall on the season. No other stats were available for the Country Christian and Regis boys  games. McKenzie boys next host Crow on Wednesday, Dec. 19 and also host Lowell on Friday, Dec. 21. Those games both tip-off at 7:00 pm.
