Eagle Tracksters Out Of The Blocks At Oakridge


Spikes, sprints, puts, heaves, throws, jumps, and leaps! High School Track and Field 2016 has arrived with the typical Oregon Spring weather of anything goes. It was an atypical Cascade Spring day, however, last Saturday, March 19, when McKenzie Head Track and Field Coach Duane Aanestad loaded his team on the bus, headed down the McKenzie River Valley and back up the Middle Fork of the Willamette.

Aanestad and his team's destination was Oakridge, host of the Warrior Relays. The Eagles would compete with nine other teams from around the State. Class 3A Jefferson, Class 2A Oakland, Oakridge, Central Linn, Crow, and Monroe, Riddle, and Class 1A Triad Christian, Yoncalla, and McKenzie all enjoyed a mild, warm, and calm day on the track.

The Eagle Girls team finished 5th and the Boys team were 6th on the afternoon. Jefferson won both the Boys and the Girls competitions with 41 points and 29 points respectively. Crow finished second in the Boys team scores with 37 points, followed by Central Linn with 32, Monroe with 30, Oakland with 28, McKenzie with 14, Oakridge with 10, Riddle with 7, and Triad Christian with 4 pts. Host Oakridge finished second in the Girls team scores with 26 pts, and was followed by Oakland at 23, Monroe at 22, McKenzie with 15, Central Linn at 11, Crow at 8, Riddle with 2 and Triad Christian with 2 pts. Coach Aanestad was very pleased with his team's opening marks and competitive spirit(s).

McKenzie senior Idgie Williams got the Eagle Girls off to a great start as she posted the first win of the day, in the 60 meter hurdles, posting a time of 11.01 seconds. Teammate Katelynn Caulley was 7th, timed in 13.10 sec. McKenzie's SMR 100-100-200-400 meter relay team, consisting of Jade Hayes, Williams, Cassidy Campbell, and Anna McNutt, finished 2nd with a time of 2:11.21 minutes behind winner Oakridge, timed in 2:07.75 min. Eagle high jumper Kanyen Kamrath took 3rd place with a jump of 4-04.00 feet. The event was won by Morgan Robb of Central Linn, clearing a height of 4-08.00 ft.

McKenzie's 4X100 relay team placed 6th with a time of 1:00.3 minutes. The team was comprised of Caulley, Paige Lowry, McNutt, and Kamrath. Monroe won the event in 53.09 seconds.

In the long jump, Hayes was the top Eagle finisher, leaping 13-03.25 feet, a 9th place finish. Lowry jumped 13-01.5 ft. for 11th and McNutt finished 16th at 11-06.50 ft. Emily Holmes, Monroe, won the long jump with a jump of 15-08.25 ft.

McKenzie's Hailee Lowry placed 16th in the shot put with a heave of 21-10.50 feet. Chole Erdahl finished right behind her teammate with a 21-10.00 ft. toss, good for 17th place. Sydney Belcatro of Central Linn won the event with a throw of 40-00.50 ft.

Hailee Lowry threw the discus 50-02 feet and finished 13th. Hope O'Neill from Triad Christian won the discus at 91-00 ft. In the javelin, Hailee Lowry was 17th with a throw of 55-03 feet and Erdahl finished 23rd at 42-11 ft. Kyla Fleck of Oakridge won the javelin with a throw of 99-05 ft.

The Eagle Boys SMR 100-100-200-400 meter relay team won the event with a fine time of 1:49.72 minutes. Team members were Coleby Hart, Jermiah McGlasson, Danny Quirk, and Drew Hamlow. The McKenzie 4X200 meter relay team ran the event in 1:55.69 minutes and 4th place, with Central Linn posting the top mark with a time of 1:51.02 minutes.

Freshman Malakai Taylor-Ide took 7th place in the discus with a throw of 81-01 feet. Hart followed with a 13th place mark of 70-04 ft. A J Nichols of Oakland won the discus with a throw of 120-00 ft. Taylor-Ide had another 7th place finish in the shot put, tossing the 12 pound implement 31-01.50 feet. Ian Dundon followed with a 15th place mark of 28-01.00 ft. and Skyler Shadbolt of Oakland won the event with a toss of 41-04.00 ft.

Taylor-Ide also finished 8th in the javelin, throwing the spear 100-11 feet. Hart finished 12th with a throw of 87-03 ft. and Dundon was 13th at 86-11 ft. The javelin winner was James Gerber of Central Linn at 145-06 ft.

Drew Hamlow jumped 17-04.00 feet in the long jump event, a 7th place finish. Karl Fishbaugher from Oakland won the long jump with a 20-00.25 ft. Hamlow also high jumped to a 9th place finish with a jump of 5-02.00 ft. Fishbaugher also won the high jump with a mark of 5-11.00 ft.


McKenzie Alumni Update


Jordan Wiley and his Western Oregon University Wolves are headed for the NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Elite Eight for the first time in WOU history. The sixth ranked Wolves will travel to Frisco, Texas, where they will meet Saginaw Valley State University, out of the Great Lakes Bay region of Michigan. The game will be played at Dr. Pepper Arena on Wednesday, March 23, with tip-off slated for 6:30 pm. Pacific time.
