McKenzie River Area Camping

Group Camping

Family gatherings or other group events of up to 100 people can be accommodated by US Forest Service group areas. Most provide just the basic amenities of restrooms, picnic tables and fire grates. Some group areas are located within a larger campground setting and others areas include the entire campground. Most are available for reservation, visit www.recreation.gov or call 1-877-444-6777.

Recommended For RV Camping

Many US Forest Service campgrounds provide sites for trailers or RVs, however hookups are not provided. Some campgrounds only provide tent sites and may be difficult to enter or exit with an RV or trailer. Check with the McKenzie River Ranger District Ranger Station before your trip. Also check nearby communities for RV dump stations and other related services.

 Cabin Rentals

Cabin rentals are usually either an old guard station or a lookout that were built in the heart of the Forest to enable fire-fighting and other personnel quick access to areas in the early 1900’s. The buildings are sometimes offered for rent (usually after a restoration effort that retains their historic integrity) as a way to keep them in good condition.

Campground Camping

Campsites generally include a table, a fire grate, and a tent or trailer space. RV hookups are not available, although most campgrounds have water and a vault or flush toilets.

Most overnight sites require a user fee. While the Forest Service administers all campground facilities, private businesses provide daily maintenance on most sites.

Most campgrounds are on a first-come, first-serve basis. Some of the popular sites and group areas are on a nation-wide campground reservation system.
