McKenzie Varsity Sports Schedule This Week


The McKenzie Athletic Department will hold its annual Fall Sports Awards ceremony this Tuesday, November 10, in the High School cafeteria. The event will start at 6:00 pm. and will honor the Eagle's 2015 Volleyball and Football athletes. Admission is free to all. There are no other McKenzie Varsity Sports contests scheduled this week.


Eagles Voted to MWL All-League Football Teams


McKenzie senior Drew Hamlow and juniors Chanse Hamlow and James Rimmer were voted by the Mt. West League South Division Head Coaches to All-League status recently. The MWL South Division includes Yoncalla, North Douglas, Lowell, Mohawk, and McKenzie.

Chanse Hamlow was tabbed for the 2015 MWL South Division Second Team All-League as a Quarterback, the Second Team Kick Returner and a Second Team Defensive Back. Drew Hamlow was selected as the Honorable Mention Offensive Utility Player and Second Team Defensive Back. James Rimmer earned an Honorable Mention as a Center.

The 2015 Mt. West League South Division Most Valuable Offensive Player chosen was Will Shaw of Yoncalla, the Eagle's senior Quarterback. The South Division's 2015 Most Valuable Defensive Player voted on by the Coaches was Austin Gordon of North Douglas. Gordon, a senior for the Warriors, played Linebacker on defense.


Mt. West League Update


Yoncalla, the Mt. West League's top seed qualifying for the 2015 OSAA State Football playoffs, defeated Camas Valley 50-26 last Friday, November 6. The Eagles now advance to the State Quarterfinals this coming week and will play Dufur, 62-8 victors over Days Creek. Lowell, the MWL's fourth seed lost on Friday to Hosanna Christian and the Red Devils season comes to a close. Lowell led 22-20 in the fourth quarter but gave up two unanswered touchdowns to fall behind for good. North Douglas, the MWL's third seed lost Saturday at Crane. The Warriors were outscored 62-14 and their season is ended. Triangle Lake was seeded second from the MWL and the Lakers were pounded by Adrian, 60-8, and will now concentrate on basketball. Thus, just Yoncalla from the MWL remains active in the OSAA State 1A Football playoffs.

In the OSAA State Volleyball Championships held at Ridgeview High School in Redmond, Country Christian defeated Hosanna Christian, 3-0, in the Championship Match to win the 2015 OSAA 1A State Volleyball Championship. North Douglas defeated Trinity Lutheran, 3-1, to claim the third place trophy. Perrydale defeated Crane, 3-0, in the Consolation Final to take home the fourth place trophy.
