McKenzie Varsity Sports Schedule This Week

The McKenzie Varsity Girls and Boys Basketball teams both travel Monday, December 28, to Dufur to participate in the 1A Hoops Classic. The Girls team will play Hosanna Christian at 2:00 pm. The Boys team follows, also against Hosanna Christian, with the game slated for a 3:30 pm. start. Both teams will play on Tuesday and Wednesday, December 29 and 30, with opponent and time to be determined yet.

Our girls basketball season has come to end, but it was a great ride.
After suffering losses to North Douglas and Elkton our girls were  eliminated from the 2015 OSAA State Championships at Baker City. Buggy  Hiddleston was named the player of the game in each contest. We had a  great time and our girls represented all of you well with great effort  and sportsmanship. When you see them, please thank them for their fine  representation of our community.

Last week our boys and girls both took down Alsea before the girls  knocked off Triangle Lake while the boys faltered.
At the end of the regular season our girls finished in 1st place with a  record of 7-1. The boys finished tied for 4th at 6-8.

Because of the four-day weekend that lies ahead, I wanted to get some info out about the next couple of weeks for our high school basketball.
Some of this is tentative, but it'll give you an idea of what to expect.
Boys:
Monday 2/16: Vs. Alsea 7pm
Wednesday 2/18 @ Mapleton 7pm(if we defeat Alsea)
Saturday 2/21 @ Northwest Christian University (if we defeat Mapleton)
2/23-2/28 Rounds 1 and 2 of OSAA State Championships (if victorious at NCU)
3/3-3/7 State Championships in Baker City (if we get through rounds 1 and 2)

Last week our boys basketball team took down Eddyville before falling short against Lowell. Our girls suffered two set backs this week, against Lowell and Trinity Lutheran. The boys look to to bounce back against Mohawk on Tuesday before traveling to #4 ranked Siletz.

The girls are idle this week until Friday when they also take on a tough Siletz team. The girls remain atop the MWL standings at 4-1.
*Note* The start times for the Siletz game may be changed due to a work conflict with one of our coaches. I'll keep you posted to any changes.
GO EAGLES!

Last week in McKenzie sports our girls basketball team had a busy week  traveling to two top ten teams in Crane and Damascus Christian. Despite  great efforts they came up short of victory. They did however defeat Triangle Lake on Tuesday to stay atop the Mountain West League. The boys  took on Triangle Lake and Mapleton. Again their valiant efforts bore no  fruit. They currently sit at 5th place in the MWL.

Last week our High School boys team was defeated by Lowell only to rebound with a victory vs. Mohawk on Friday. Our girls defeated Lowell and look to be the team to beat in the Mountain West League. We host Siletz Valley on Tuesday before traveling to Alsea on Friday. Our girls will then travel to Country Christian on Saturday to take on the #2 ranked Cougars.

Happy New Year,

I'm sure you all are rested and ready to tackle the new year! I know I  am.
Our athletes didn't have quite the rest we did as they were busy  representing our Eagles around the state. The boys competed in 5  contests over the break culminating in a 5th place finish at the 1A  Hoops Classic in Portland. Our girls were a little bit busier with 6  games during the break. They came away with a 4th place finish at the  Hoops Classic. Buggy Hiddleston was named to the all tournament team for  her efforts in Portland.
