An early backyard burning ban in Lane County is now in effect. Due to high fire danger, LRAPA and the Lane Fire Defense Board have now (5/6/13)prohibited all backyard and open burning in Lane County, except on the coast.

Computer/Phone Scam

The Lane County Sheriff’s Office would like to alert community members of a phone scam that was recently reported.  Scammers are calling and identifying themselves as Windows Technical support.  The scammers will then convince users that there is an issue with their computer and have the user open their computer and give the scammer remote access.

Jan. 28: 7:55 AM: Assault – 50000 block, McK. Hwy. During call male could be heard hitting female & victim screaming for him to get off her. 08:04 Female is on the line advising that she was in a verbal dispute with her boyfriend – no assault. He just threw her purse. 08:47: Info relayed - OSP dispatching. 09:44: No one is at location.

County commissioners schedule 2  hearings on public safety

Lane County Commissioners will hold two public hearings on funding the county’s public safety structure.  Data from a recent public safety funding survey will be presented and community members will have an opportunity to give feedback.
