McKenzie River Reflections

Back in 1867, Elwood Evans, a young lawyer, politician and historian in Washington Territory, started writing a book on the history of Washington’s neighbor to the south, the eight-year-old state of Oregon.
Thinking it would be well to get input from some of the still-living people who had shaped Oregon’s history, Evans reached out to some of them, hoping to get better information. One of these people was Jesse Applegate, popularly known as the “Sage of Yoncalla,” a key player in the early formation of Oregon who had since retired to his farm.

Our baseball team was busy over the break when they traveled to Siletz last Friday for a double header. Although they did not come away victorious, our boys showed great improvement from our first game. Game 1 score was 10-0, while the game 2 score was 5-1. This week the baseball team will get back at it with two games while the track team will travel to Sherman on Saturday. As was expected, with the start of spring sports the rain seems to be upon us. As postponements occur, I'll do my best to update all of you through email.

Our girls basketball season has come to end, but it was a great ride.
After suffering losses to North Douglas and Elkton our girls were  eliminated from the 2015 OSAA State Championships at Baker City. Buggy  Hiddleston was named the player of the game in each contest. We had a  great time and our girls represented all of you well with great effort  and sportsmanship. When you see them, please thank them for their fine  representation of our community.
