Computer/Phone Scam

The Lane County Sheriff’s Office would like to alert community members of a phone scam that was recently reported.  Scammers are calling and identifying themselves as Windows Technical support.  The scammers will then convince users that there is an issue with their computer and have the user open their computer and give the scammer remote access.

March 21: 9:37 PM: Animal Abuse – 38000 block, Upper Camp Creek Rd. Complainant advises a mare in a field is badly nourished – nothing but skin & bones, not being fed & does not have adequate water. Caller & family are long term horse owners & are very aware of the difference between aging/natural issues & neglect or abuse.  Info relayed.

The Oregon State University Press, which was founded more than 50 years ago, is publishing its first book aimed at children.
“Ellie’s Log: Exploring the Forest Where the Great Tree Fell” continues the press’ tradition of publications about Pacific Northwest forests and natural history. But this seven-chapter book is aimed at eight- to 12-year-olds.

Early Portland was a relatively corruption-friendly town. But even the best of us have our limits, as three Multnomah County Commissioners learned the hard way in 1924.
In that year, the Portland area had a serious traffic congestion problem. The main source of the trouble was the Burnside Bridge, a swing-span setup that was at the time only 30 years old. However, it had deteriorated very badly, and was no longer considered safe. A new bridge was desperately needed.
