USFS RD. 15 detourThe scenic Aufderheide Drive (Forest Service Road 19) that connects Blue River and Westfir will close for four days for road work. The closure will occur near milepost 14, beginning at 12 p.m. on Monday, May 20th,  until 12 p.m. on Friday, May 24th.

Community clean-up events, such as the Springfield Clean-Up happening this weekend, are no longer able to collect lawn chairs, plastic bins, tubs, baskets, playground toys, flower pots, or any large bulky plastic items to recycle. This season, an outlet to properly dispose and recycle these unusual plastics does not exist.

Grinning girlsMarissa and Erica McClintock, 5-year old twins from Coos Bay, OR, enjoy free pastries at the Cinco de Mayo party.  The McClintock family regularly vacations at Black Butte Ranch and says they “always stop at Ike’s” when traveling through the McKenzie River Valley.

The McKenzie River Lions Club had an all-day Cinco de Mayo fundraising party at Ike’s Pizza which was so successful that Ike’s was running out of food by the end of the evening.  Ike’s contributed 25% of the sales to the Lions, and the Lions again thank hosts Tom Burden and Debbie Strucker for their support.

 

 

Damage area on USFS Rd 15USFS Road 15 will be closed next Monday and Tuesday (May 13th & 14th) for paving. It was extensively damaged in January of 2012 when heavy rains caused soil under the road to collapse, removing 180 feet of the pavement near milepost 2.
