September 28, 2015 I hope everyone had a great weekend. Our girls volleyball team picked up two league victories last week before hosting the RPI tournament over the weekend. Our beautiful campus was on display for seven visiting schools. It was a great day thanks to the help of so many volunteers. Our football team put up our most points of the season during our homecoming game but came up short against the Sailors. McKenzie Varsity Sports Schedule This Week The McKenzie Varsity Volley-ball team hosts Siletz Valley on Tuesday, September 15. The match will start at 6:00 pm. The McKenzie Cross Country Teams host the EWEB Canal Run on Wednesday, September 16 with the race starting at 4:30 pm. The start of the race is located near the Johnson Creek Road in Leaburg. Over the weekend our volleyball and football teamed traveled together to Gilchrist. While there we experienced great hospitality and sportsmanship from the Grizzlies. Our football team showed a valiant effort against a speedy Grizzly team. The volleyball team came back from two sets down and rallied to an amazing comeback victory. Parade tractor It will be “Fair Day” on September 12th. The Walterville Grange plans to be “Shake Waddle and Roll” for this year’s annual Walterville Community Fair. The Walterville Waddle 5K run/walk will start off the day at 8 a.m. Fair entries of canning, baking, sewing, arts/crafts, produce, flowers, or other items should be brought to the hall by 9 a.m. Judging of entries starts at 9:30 a.m. Flag raising by local Scouts will be at 10 a.m., followed by the parade at 11 a.m. with a tractor show and shine. Our baseball team was busy last week with three games and continues to improve. The track team traveled to Portland to take part in the 1A Track Classic where our girls took 3rd place. Our baseball team was busy over the break when they traveled to Siletz last Friday for a double header. Although they did not come away victorious, our boys showed great improvement from our first game. Game 1 score was 10-0, while the game 2 score was 5-1. Our girls Basketball team is headed back to Baker City for the third time in four years for the OSAA State Championships this week! Thanks to our great fans who packed the gym on Saturday night. Our girls defeated Trinity Lutheran 45-33. We had previously lost twice to the Saints this year. Your support played a huge role in the victory. Thanks again for coming. Last week our boys basketball season ended with a loss to Alsea. They finished 8-17 overall with a 6th place finish in the MWL. Last week our boys and girls both took down Alsea before the girls knocked off Triangle Lake while the boys faltered. At the end of the regular season our girls finished in 1st place with a record of 7-1. The boys finished tied for 4th at 6-8. Hey everyone, Last week our boys defeated Mohawk before falling to league leading Siletz Valley. Our girls beat Siletz Valley on Friday night to claim the Mountain West League Regular Season championship with two games remaining. This week we host Alsea for senior night. Last week our boys basketball team took down Eddyville before falling short against Lowell. Our girls suffered two set backs this week, against Lowell and Trinity Lutheran. The boys look to to bounce back against Mohawk on Tuesday before traveling to #4 ranked Siletz. The girls are idle this week until Friday when they also take on a tough Siletz team. Last week in McKenzie sports our girls basketball team had a busy week traveling to two top ten teams in Crane and Damascus Christian. Despite great efforts they came up short of victory. They did however defeat Triangle Lake on Tuesday to stay atop the Mountain West League. The boys took on Triangle Lake and Mapleton. Again their valiant efforts bore no fruit.
