I hope everyone had a relaxing Thanksgiving break. Now that I have my winter weight on, I'm ready for the cold months ahead. The middle school girls basketball will travel on 12/2 which is a change from their original 12/3 date. This week we only have one contest as the Middle School girls travel to Alsea in an attempt to remain undefeated on the season. Eagles Serve WVC a 3-0 Loss McKenzie delivered a season-ending blow to Willamette Valley Christian, upsetting the 10th ranked Warriors in three straight sets, 25-14, 25-16, and 25-17. The end of a fantastic fall athletic season has come to a close. Our football team ended their season with a convincing win at Alsea to finish the season at 2-7. Thank you all for the support. On Saturday our middle school volleyball team won the MWL middle school tournament by defeating Alsea in 3 exciting sets. Also on Saturday our High School volleyball team made the long trek to Dufur to take on the Rangers for a 2nd round OSAA state playoff match. Our volleyball team took down Mapleton on Saturday at the Mountain West League Championships to earn the 3rd seed to the OSAA state playoffs. On Wednesday they will play Willamette Valley Christian with a tentative start time of 6:30pm. The game will be played at Blanchet Catholic High School. As details arise, I'll pass them onto you ASAP. It is only a quick jaunt up I-5. It would be great to have the support of our awesome fans. McKenzie Varsity Sports Schedule This Week The McKenzie Varsity Cross Country runners travel to Dorris Ranch in Springfield to participate in the SD4 District 4 Championships on Thursday, October 23. The meet starts at 11:00 am. The McKenzie’s Varsity Football team travels to Lowell on Friday, October 24, with kickoff scheduled for 7:00 pm. The McKenzie Varsity Volleyball team travels to Junction City High School, Saturday, October 25, to participate in the Mt. West League Volleyball Tournament. Our girls volleyball finished the regular season in second place and will enter the MWL tournament at Junction City High School as the #2 seed with the hopes of gaining the #1 seed from the MWL to the OSAA state championships. Last week our girls volleyball put up a great fight against top league opponent Lowell but fell in four sets. They rebounded nicely to take down Mohawk and Condon/Wheeler later in the week. This week they look to continue their hold on second place in league while they play host to Siletz Valley before traveling to Alsea. Last week our HS volleyball team took down Mapleton and Eddyville in League play. On Saturday we hosted the 3rd Annual RPI Invitational that produced some great matchups from statewide teams. Another great week of McKenzie Athletics has passed with the High School Volleyball team taking down Alsea, Triangle Lake and Amity. Our football team fell to Mapleton but showed much improvement as they prepare to start their regular season schedule this week against North Douglas. The Eagles took down league opponents Mohawk and Siletz and then won a couple of exciting non-league matches on Saturday vs. Triad and Monroe. Golfer The third annual Tokatee Scramble, a golf tournament benefiting the McKenzie River Medical Clinic, has room for some more teams. This year, the popular tournament takes place on Sunday, August 31, during Labor Day weekend. Tokatee Golf Club, on the McKenzie Hwy. in Rainbow, is hosting the tournament again this year. Registration fee is $100 per person, or $400 per four-person team, and includes an 18-hole round of golf, cart, range balls, lunch and beverage afterwards, and complimentary raffle tickets.
