Last week in McKenzie sports our girls basketball team had a busy week traveling to two top ten teams in Crane and Damascus Christian. Despite great efforts they came up short of victory. They did however defeat Triangle Lake on Tuesday to stay atop the Mountain West League. The boys took on Triangle Lake and Mapleton. Again their valiant efforts bore no fruit. Last week our High School boys team was defeated by Lowell only to rebound with a victory vs. Mohawk on Friday. Our girls defeated Lowell and look to be the team to beat in the Mountain West League. We host Siletz Valley on Tuesday before traveling to Alsea on Friday. Our girls will then travel to Country Christian on Saturday to take on the #2 ranked Cougars. On Saturday we hosted the Mountain West League Middle school girls tournament where our girls finished 6th. The girls finished the season with a record of 10-2. It was a huge success...
Happy New Year, I'm sure you all are rested and ready to tackle the new year! I know I am. Our athletes didn't have quite the rest we did as they were busy representing our Eagles around the state. The boys competed in 5 contests over the break culminating in a 5th place finish at the 1A Hoops Classic in Portland. Our girls were a little bit busier with 6 games during the break. Warriors Wrap-up Eagles in Winter Tournament Both McKenzie Varsity Teams were routed recently by host North Douglas in the opening round of the North Douglas Winter Tournament. Our boys and girls girls basketball were busy last week. They both took on Falls City and came away victorious. Our boys then traveled to Eddyville and picked up their first league win of the season. Both teams then traveled to Condon/Wheeler for a tournament where they each suffered two setbacks while giving a valiant effort. Another busy week awaits as our boys host Mapleton on Tuesday before the boys and girls travel to the North Douglas Tournament. Last week was the start of our high school basketball season, and it was a busy week. Our boys finished the week 1-2 with a win over Trinity Lutheran. Our girls went 2-1 and captured the tournament title at Yoncalla with wins over Yoncalla and Lowell. Buggy Hiddleston and Katey Totten were selected to the All-tournament team. The end of a fantastic fall athletic season has come to a close. Our football team ended their season with a convincing win at Alsea to finish the season at 2-7. Thank you all for the support. On Saturday our middle school volleyball team won the MWL middle school tournament by defeating Alsea in 3 exciting sets. Also on Saturday our High School volleyball team made the long trek to Dufur to take on the Rangers for a 2nd round OSAA state playoff match. Our volleyball team took down Mapleton on Saturday at the Mountain West League Championships to earn the 3rd seed to the OSAA state playoffs. On Wednesday they will play Willamette Valley Christian with a tentative start time of 6:30pm. The game will be played at Blanchet Catholic High School. Our girls volleyball finished the regular season in second place and will enter the MWL tournament at Junction City High School as the #2 seed with the hopes of gaining the #1 seed from the MWL to the OSAA state championships. Another great week of McKenzie Athletics has passed with the High School Volleyball team taking down Alsea, Triangle Lake and Amity. Our football team fell to Mapleton but showed much improvement as they prepare to start their regular season schedule this week against North Douglas.
