The Vida-McKenzie Neighborhood Watch

Is a nonprofit volunteer community service organization assisting local law enforcement agencies in patrolling the community, businesses and neighborhoods in the area between the west end of Greenwood Drive on the West and Ben & Kay Doris State Park on the East.

The most important purpose of Neighborhood Watch is to prevent crime. The program is rooted in the reality that the county sheriff can't patrol all areas of the county at all times, and that community members can act as volunteers and take responsibility for their neighborhood by maintaining awareness of their surroundings.

The Neighborhood Watch program has been in use across the country since 1972. It was founded by the National Sheriffs' Association in an effort to help police reduce crime by using the eyes and ears of the community. According to the National Crime Prevention Council, the origin of the program actually goes back to America's colonial time period, when neighborhood streets were patrolled each night by local watchmen.

How to Join the Vida-McKenzie Neighborhood Watch

Membership applications are accepted year round from any resident who would like to make a small commitment of time to help

make this area safer from criminal activity. There are no dues; just volunteer a little of your time to help strengthen the security of our neighborhood.

We encourage you to attend one of our meetings. They are held on the 2nd Thursday of each month at the Vida-McKenzie Community Center on Thomson Lane in Vida, OR. From May through October, they are at 6:30 PM and from November through April, they are at 2:00 PM.
