Eagle Spring Sports Awards
McKenzie High held its annual Spring Sports Awards Ceremony last Tuesday, June 4, honoring several outstanding Varsity athletes in Baseball, Golf and Track and Field. In Baseball, Senior Blake Anderson was honored with the Team Most Valuable Player Award. Senior Josh Ness received the Gold Glove Outfield Award and Junior Casey Mitchell was the recipient of the Gold Glove Infield Award. The Most Inspirational Player Award went to Junior Bailey Adams and the Most Improved Player Award was given to Freshman Drew Hamlow. It was also announced that Senior Victor Vidal was a unanimous First Team 2A/1A All State selection at the Catcher Position. Vidal will also be participating in the 2013 2A/1A Baseball All Star Series. The Senior Eagle ended his regular season with a .571 Batting Average and was chosen by Mountain Valley League Coaches, along with Mitchell, Adams, and Nick Ringler as First Team All League players. Anderson was a Second Team Selection. McKenzie Varsity Baseball Letter Awards went to Seniors Vidal, Ringler, Anderson, Ness, Jesse Eaton, Spencer Brown, Seth Burson, Juniors Mitchell and Adams, Sophomores Eric Huffman and Blue Bloomer, and Freshman Hamlow. The Eagle Baseball Team also qualified as an OSAA Academic All State Team with a 3.19 Team Grade Point Average (GPA).
In Golf, Senior Sydney King, the 2013 McKenzie Golf Captain and Special District Five 4A/3A/2A/1A Medalist, earned All State recognition by golfing to a Tenth place finish in the OSAA State Golf Championships. Senior Caleb Scrivner and Freshman Raven Stevens each earned a McKenzie Varsity Golf Letter Award.
Eagle Track and Field Athletes recognized were Senior Jon Mahody, who received the McKenzie Track and Field (T & F) Male Most Valuable Player Award and Sophomore Alex Nastasiuk who was honored with the Eagles Male Competitor Award. On the Girl’s Team, Senior Peace Shepherd and Junior Shyla Harlan were each recognized with the McKenzie T & F Female Most Valuable Player Award and Sophomore Katey Totten received the Eagle’s Female Competitor Award. OSAA State Track and Field Championship Meet Participation Certificates were awarded to Mahody, Nastasiuk, Dorian Dilley, Bailey Adams, Drew Hamlow, and Makaila Hiddleston. McKenzie Varsity Track and Field Letter Awards went to Seniors Mahody and Shepherd, Juniors Harlan, Hiddleston, and Adams, Sophomores Totten, Haley Jackson, and Dilley, and Freshman Savanna LaVoie, Nate Welch, and Hamlow. The Eagle Track and Field Girl’s Team also qualified as an OSAA Academic All State Team with a 3.51 Team GPA.
