Cold Snap Deep Freezes Season Openers
The Eagles Varsity Boys and Girls Basketball season opening games at the Yoncalla Tournament were canceled last Friday and Saturday, December 6 and 7. With schools around Lane County still under closure for inclement weather and icy roads, McKenzie’s scheduled Mt. West League opening games at Triangle Lake are likely to be rescheduled as well. Folks interested in the contests should contact McKenzie High School for updates or check online at osaa.org and link on winter activities.
For The Record
McKenzie’s Devon Banks still holds the OSAA State 1A Basketball Tournament All-Time records in two categories. Banks, as a senior for the Eagles in 2004, successfully shot and made 9 3-pt. field goals out of 15 attempts in an OSAA State quarter final game versus North Clackamas Christian. Banks also holds the All Time State Tournament record for total 3 pt. shots made with 17, out of 28 attempts. Both records were set in 2004 when the Eagles lost their first game to North Clackamas Christian 68-71, and then rallied to defeat Umpqua Valley Christian 90-48, and defeat Arlington 60-51, earning a fourth place trophy.
The Eagles Taya Harbick likewise holds two OSAA State 1A Basketball Tournament records. Harbick, is in a tie for the High 3 pt. made percentage in a game with a 1.000 performance (versus Jewell), making 5 shots out of 5 attempts. Harbick also owns the High 3 pt. percentage in a Tournament with a .700 performance on 7-10 shooting. Both records were set in 2010.
