Oregon State Police (OSP) is continuing the investigation into the cause of Saturday afternoon's motorcycle-involved fatal traffic crash that occurred on Highway 126E at Mill Creek Road west of McKenzie Bridge. The victim's name will be released Sunday to allow family additional time for next of kin notifications. OSP is seeking witnesses who reportedly were at the intersection when the crash occurred but left before they could be interviewed.
On June 14, 2014 at approximately 12 noon, a 2005 Yamaha motorcycle pulling a small utility trailer driven by the adult male victim was traveling eastbound on Highway 126E near milepost 47 when it reportedly crossed into the westbound lane and collided head-on with a 2007 Honda Accord.
The motorcycle's operator, who was wearing a protective helmet, was ejected and came to rest on the ground. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The Honda's driver, Ellen R. Weaver, 77, from Eugene, was transported by ambulance to Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend. She was treated and released.
OSP troopers from the Springfield Area Command office are continuing the investigation. Trooper Andy Youngblood is the lead investigator.
OSP is seeking any witnesses who were in the area at the time of the crash. Anyone with information not shared with troopers is asked to call OSP Northern Command Center dispatch at 800-452-7888.
OSP was assisted at the scene by Lane County Sheriff's Office, McKenzie Rural Fire Protection District, Springfield Fire Department, and ODOT. The highway was re-opened about 5:00 p.m.
