Industrial Fire Precaution Level also increases
Due to increased fire danger levels, the Willamette National Forest will initiate the following public use restrictions, effective Thursday, September 11:
Building, maintaining, attending or using a fire, or campfire, including a charcoal fire, except in campfire rings at posted, developed and designated recreation areas (see list below) and in Wilderness areas. Portable cooking stoves using liquefied or bottled fuel are still permissible in dispersed areas.
Using a generator except in designated recreation areas (see list below).
Operating a chainsaw.
Welding or operating an acetylene or other torch with open flame.
Smoking, except within an enclosed vehicle or building, a developed recreation site, or while stopped in an area at least three feet in diameter that is cleared of all flammable material.
Using an internal combustion engine except for motor vehicles on roadways and areas as designated by the Willamette National Forest Motor Vehicle Use Map and for boat motors on the water.
“We understand this is an inconvenience for our visitors but the current fire danger and anticipated long-term dry weather prompted us to issue these restrictions,” said Sean Stafford, Fire Staff for the Willamette National Forest.
In addition to Public Use Restrictions, the Willamette National Forest will move to an Industrial Fire Precaution Level III (IFPL). This results in a partial shutdown of industrial operations, with certain restrictions during the hours of 8 P.M. and 1 P.M. local time. Specific information is available online at http://www.fs.usda.gov/willamette.
