Make the McKenzie Connection!
By Dan Purkey
Wednesday night, all is quiet; except the turn of the wheel, the number called and (to my personal surprise)...”BINGO”! It is Wacky Wednesday with $4 burgers and $2 well drinks at the River Stop Restaurant and Sports Bar at the Walterville Center!
A young woman, born and raised in Southern California, caught the “McKenzie Fever” early by visiting relatives in Oregon. Heather Hernandez-Reja has also lived in Spain, Denmark and London (where she was the Senior Sales Manager of Barbican Center, the “largest arts and conference center of Europe” but, fortunately for us, the “Fever” brought her to us six years ago.
In 2014, she bought “Aunt Ding’s Restaurant” and renovated it into the River Stop Restaurant and Sports Bar! Heather has not only transformed the restaurant and unselfishly saved a life through an organ donation; but she has provided important careers for people like “Paulie.“ an accomplished culinary aficionado.
Looking forward to 2019, with a super team, a new menu, special events, a Saturday- Sunday Brunch from 11 to 2 and a vision to reach locals and travelers alike; Heather will serve all of us seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. (11 to 11, Friday to Sunday in the Sports Bar). Please call 541-726-9088 for further information or visit them on line at theriverstop.com.
