Make the McKenzie Connection!
I would like to throw out a huge thank you to some of our increcible Community Volunteers who have been very active as of late.
First on behalf of the McKenzie Community Track and Field, thanks to Brent and Megan Weiss and their entire Family, including high school students Grace and Claire, to Sylvia Dion and high school daughter, Myra, to Don Dow, Terry Herndon, and Gene Flint.
The Weiss Family spent two weekends trimming trees and cutting, stacking brush along the Track Pond and adjoining parking lot, kiosk. This will help fire-harden the area and allow enhanced viewing of the wildlife utilizing the Pond/Riparian habitat.
Thanks to the Dion family for helping with the above and pruning the Track’s apple tree. Don Dow, utilizing the skid steer owned by Cascade Relief Team and stationed in Blue River, moved and stacked the brush into burn piles. That action was followed by Terry Herndon and Gene Flint on the skid steer, burning the piles for a couple of days, reducing the potential fire hazard.
Also, thanks to Sunny Willis, BioBuilders owner/operator for the use of his fire truck. Later in the week, Terry, Gene, Tevia White and Jim Clark utilized the same equipment to stack, burn and monitor the burn piles located at the Blue River Water District well property, along McKenzie Highway. Again, this positive, pre-emptive action performed by these gentlemen, experienced by many years of prescribed burning practice, reduced the fire hazard to surrounding properties.
With the skid steer, Don Dow helped move a generator at the School with the and Tevia White helped move and stack logs on McKenzie District property.
Thanks again folks!!
